All Souls commemorates the faithful departed. We remember them with thanksgiving, entrust them to God’s mercy in Christ, and pray that He would raise us with them to everlasting life on the Last Day. We do not pray to the dead, and we do not presume to determine their state by our prayers. We rest in the promise of the Gospel.

This day also reminds us of the brevity of our own lives and our daily need of repentance. Teach us to number our days, that we may wait in sure hope for the resurrection.
